This project, the first Provincial Courts Facility constructed in the GTA in over 30 years when built, has been used as a model and a template for others throughout Ontario in the past decades. An extremely successful, efficient planning arrangement allowed for a broad range of components including 5 courtrooms, jury rooms, judges retiring rooms, interview rooms, police rooms, a café, administrative areas, public areas, and a secure corridor. Completed under an extremely tight schedule, all design and construction was finished in under 4 months, on budget, with virtually no extras. Despite ceiling height constraints of the existing building, full court height ceilings were achieved using innovative design strategies such as off-setting HVAC bulkheads to courtroom sides. Extremely high user-appreciation.
